What is Oud?

⁃ Oud is one of the most expensive and desirable perfume ingredients in the world.

⁃ Oud’ literally means ‘from wood’ in Arabic. 

⁃ It comes from Agar trees infected by a parasitic mold known as Phialophora parasitica, the tree will respond by creating a dark, fragrant resin and entrapping the parasite within. Once this resin hardens, this creates oud, which can then be harvested.

⁃ Oud wood has been used in traditional medicine for centuries and is considered to be a very spiritual plant. 

⁃ It is often said that oud wood can promote positive energy, clarity of mind, and creativity.

⁃ Many cultures around the world use oud wood for rituals, ceremonies and spiritual cleansing. 

⁃ The Oud is also an 11 or 13 string pear shaped wooden instrument played in Iran & Syria.
