Oud... Gold of the scent world

What is Oud?
Oud is one of the most expensive and desirable perfume ingredients in the world.
Oud’ literally means ‘from wood’ in Arabic.
It comes from Agar trees infected by a parasitic mold known as Phialophora parasitica, the tree will respond by creating a dark, fragrant resin and entrapping the parasite within. Once this resin hardens, this creates oud, which can then be harvested.
Oud wood has been used in traditional medicine for centuries and is considered to be a very spiritual plant.
It is often said that oud wood can promote positive energy, clarity of mind, and creativity.
Many cultures around the world use oud wood for rituals, ceremonies and spiritual cleansing.
The Oud is also an 11 or 13 string pear shaped wooden instrument played in Iran & Syria.
